What are the Elements?

The Elements in magick are extremely important. So in this section i thought i'd discuss their varoius properties and influences.

Earth:

Earth is the source and provider of all our needs. It represents decay, patience, strength, stability, animals, farming and physical labour. Its feeling is dry and cold, its season is Winter, its direction is North with its colours being that of browns, blacks, purples and greens. Its Moon phase is the Fourth Quarter and favoured time is Midnight.

Earth Magick can involve herbs and plants. Burying something, making a wish and offering something to the Earth can be very effective.

Air:

Air represents mental activity, thoughts, reason and intellect, knowledge, friendship, freedom and expression. Its feelings are moist heat, its season is Spring, its direction is East, with its colours being white, yellow and light blue, its Moon phase is the First Quarter and its time Dawn.

Types of Air Magick involves visualisations and words. Visualisations make it happen, words can form spells or can be used to channel power. Words give rise to our desires and can set them free upon the winds. They create an atmosphere of concentrated awareness and strength, a very powerful magick in itself. Another type of Air Magick is that of Mirror Magick. It can help overcome difficult decisions and inner problems. Using both word and visualisation it can aid in you being able to see a future event, sometimes through the medium of a scrying tool.

Fire:

Fire represents passion, enthusiasm, desire and courage, fertility and rejuvenation. It represents both light and heat, the light of intelligence and the courage to follow it. Fire Magick can bring on the new and destroy the old. Its feelings are hot and dry, its season is Summer and direction is South. Its colours are reds, oranges and golds. Its Moon phase is the Second Quarter and its time is High Noon.

Types of Fire Magick include Candle Magick, a colour candle is chosen in relation to your desire and lit over seven nights. There is also Sun Magick, using the Sun is a perfect way to enhance new beginnings in love, health, work and home.

Water:

Water imbibes all life forms and in us we flow with the tide of our feelings. It involves intuition, insight, fertility, health, beauty and divination. Its feelings are cold moisture, its season is Autumn, direction is West and its colours are blues, greys sea greens and white. Its Moon phase is Full Moon and its time is Dusk.

Some Wter Magick involve the sea environment, especially good for love spells and when you need to get a grip or clarify your own emotions. Water spells can involve using scrying bowls. This is a bowl of water in which you are able to see the future or get a clear direction on decisions.

Spirit:

Spirit is related to all directions. It is the element of the divine and the purity of the soul. This element brings us closer to the divine voice which resides within us all. It is said to open us up to the hidden potentials if humanity and the energy that flows around us.
