Seasonal

Lughnassadh or Lammas (31st July - 1st August).

Pronounced Loo-Nahs-ah this is the festival of the first fruits of the harvest. The Celtic Sun God (Lugh) gives his energy to the crops to ensure life while the Mother Goddess prepares to give way to her Crone aspect. Autumn begins and summer is on the wane, the suns strength dwindles as the Sun God loses his strength. We morn his passing and celebrate him as he is the God of harvest, fire and light.

This is the time that the first crops, usually grains and vegetables are ready to be harvested. Bread is baked as a way to celebrate this day hence the name Lammas (loaf-mass). Also the making of corn dolls to guard your home for the coming season is also a popular tradition. Colours associated with Lammas are red, orange and yellow. Incense to be burned st this time include Rose, Sandalwood, Aloes and Passionflower. Gemstones include Citrine and Carnelian.

Now is the time to teach what you have learned, to celebrate and give thanks for the fruits of your achievements to the world. It is a time of thanksgiving for all that is in your life and in nature. Pay off some debts, and pursue magick related to career, good fortune, connectedness, health and justice.

So why not celebrate the Sun God and what he has given us by going on a long walk in the countryside, take a look at how wonderful nature is and then have a picnic of cake and cider.
